One of the most popular icebox watermelons, the Sugar Baby variety saves space and has super sweet, dark red flesh. Rind turns from striped to solid, dark green when ripe. Fruits are small, round, and grow well in cooler climates.
- 25 seeds minimum
- Germination: 5-10 days
- Maturity: 85 days
- Direct sow ½-1” deep in full sun after last frost or start indoors 3-4 weeks prior to last frost. Harden off seedlings before planting. Watermelon seedlings prefer not to be disturbed; direct sow is suggested.
- Sow seeds 6” apart. Space plants 18” apart in rows 6-8’ apart.

Sugar Baby's are deserving of their name!
Firm, fine texture and one of the sweetest watermelon's to ever meet your tastebuds! They keep well, once picked, if kept in a cool dark place. We've kept them for a few weeks. We especially like them because they don't mush into a container of juice once cut into cubes, like some more grainy melons might. Been our favorite for 60 years... and counting~~ :)
