Scott’s grandmother had a patch of rhubarb in the back yard. Mom remembers it growing there for over 30 years. A perennial that comes back year after year, a rhubarb patch is a wonderful, easy care, spring vegetable. Almost everyone eats it in a pie or dessert, sweetening up that tart flavor with sugar to balance it into something really delicious. It can also be used in a savory way, sweetened with a little sugar and used as a sauce for fish or chicken, or even unsweetened in a curry.
