Perennial, hardy in zones 2-8. Milk Thistle is a member of the Aster family, with beautiful light purple flowers. The young shoots can be eaten like asparagus, and the down from the seeds can be used to stuff pillows. The leaves and seeds are traiditonally used in herbal medicine to detoxify the liver, treat asthma, and to treat a painful cough.
