Prizehead Lettuce

$2.50

45 day.  Dating back to the late 1800's, Prizehead is not a head lettuce, but a green leaf lettuce tinged with purple to bronze.  It has crinkly leaves that are tender and sweet.

Minimum of 250 seeds per packet.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Planting Depth: 0-1/4 inch

Plant Spacing: 3-6 inches

Row Spacing: 12-18 inches

Recommended: Direct seed in spring 2-4 weeks before last frost.

You can also start indoors and transplant when individual plants are about 3 inches tall.

In fall, plant 6-8 weeks before first frost.

Lettuce does not like heat and will get bitter and bolt (go to flower) if the temperatures are too warm. Cut off the flower stalks to extend the life of your lettuce. You can also bring indoors, if in a planter, and set in a sunny (preferably southern facing) window to extend the life of the plant.
