Cucurbita moschata. Butternut squash is one of the sweetest squashes. Deep orange flesh with a small seed cavity at the bottom, it is an easy squash to use because most of the squash is solid flesh. It is also a good keeper, most lasting the entire winter in my basement with no additional care.
Minimum of 15 seeds per packet.
Planting Depth: 1 inch
Plant Spacing: 4 feet
Direct seed after last danger of frost and soil temperatures are above 60°F or start indoors 3 weeks before transplanting. The roots are delicate, so if you start indoors take care not to disturb the roots when transplanting.

I haven't done a thing to these buddies other than pop the seed in the soil and give them something to grow up. They're happy and about ready to start harvesting.
